We’ve answered some of the most common questions we get at Healthy Choices Chiropractic to help you feel confident and comfortable about your first visit.
What can I expect on my first visit? Your first visit is all about understanding you and your health. We’ll start by talking about your history, what’s been going on, and what you’d like to achieve. Then we’ll perform a thorough chiropractic assessment to see how your spine and nervous system are functioning. We’ll explain everything as we go and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. You don’t need to wear anything special – just something comfortable that allows you to move freely. Please bring any relevant scans, reports, or referrals if you have them.
Will I get adjusted on my first visit? We’ll always do our best to adjust you as soon as possible. However, your safety and the effectiveness of your care are our top priorities. If we need to get additional tests such as X-rays first to make sure we fully understand what’s happening and can adjust safely, we’ll absolutely do that before beginning care.
Do I need X-rays? Not everyone needs X-rays, but sometimes they’re an important part of understanding what’s happening with your spine and nervous system. If we believe X-rays are necessary, we’ll explain why and help you organise them. The good news is that, in most cases, X-rays can be bulk billed under Medicare if you’re an Australian citizen, meaning there’s usually no out-of-pocket cost.
How much does it cost? Your initial consultation is $88. The Australian Chiropractors Association’s national survey lists the average initial consultation fee at $118, so we aim to keep care affordable while providing a high-quality experience.
Do I need a referral? No referral is needed to see a chiropractor. You can book directly with us online or by phone at any time.
Do you accept private health funds? Yes, we are accepted by most major private health funds.
Where are you located and how do I get there? We’re easy to find – right next to Nev’s Café at 4/267 Smart Rd, St Agnes. There’s plenty of free on-site parking, and there’s also a bus stop right out the front.
Who will I see? We have three experienced chiropractors, each with their own unique style. Dr Brett Hill uses precise, low-force techniques (mostly blocks and an activator) for a gentle and effective way to restore balance. Dr Dominic Sycopoulis blends manual and low-force methods for a balanced and versatile style of care. Dr Cam Vaughan delivers classic, hands-on chiropractic adjustments for those who enjoy a strong, direct approach.
Are the adjustments gentle? Yes. Each of our chiropractors tailors care to suit your comfort level and health needs. We use a range of techniques from gentle low-force adjustments to traditional manual care, always explaining what we’re doing and why.
Can children see a chiropractor? Absolutely. Chiropractic care for kids is gentle and effective, focused on helping their growing bodies function at their best. We use light techniques suited to each child’s age and comfort. Many parents bring their children for check-ups after falls, during key developmental stages and for regular spine and nervous system check ups.
How many visits will I need? That depends on your goals and what’s happening with your spine and nervous system. We’re a wellness and prevention-focused practice, so our goal is to help you not only feel better but stay better. At the same time, we’re a people-first practice. That means we’ll always make the absolute recommendations for your spine, nervous system, and health – and we’ll 100% respect your right to choose how you want to use chiropractic care. Whether you come for symptom relief, prevention, or long-term wellness, we’re here to support you.
What if I just want to come in when I’m in pain? That’s perfectly fine. We’ll help you get comfortable again and talk through your options for ongoing care if you’d like to stay well and prevent problems from returning. Our job is to give you the absolute best recommendations for your body and your health, your job is to decide what you do about them.
What conditions do you help with? Many people come to see us for back pain, neck pain, and headaches, but chiropractic care is really about improving the function of your spine and nervous system so your body can work at its best. Many of our patients also choose care as part of their long-term wellness and prevention routine.
If you’ve been thinking about chiropractic care, there’s no better time than now. Whether you’re looking for relief from back pain, neck pain or headaches, or you’re ready to focus on prevention and long-term wellness, we’d love to help.
